June 6th DDay anniversary and Upcoming European Elections

Far right parties, critical of immigration ,asylum and the EU, have gained much more traction in Europe. The far-right isn’t seeking to tackle social inequalities so their anti-EU/ migration stance alone isn’t complete for a European revival. Social inequalities are at the root of European discontent, that is then compounded by an influx of needy asylum seekers.

June 14th European Parliamentary Elections

The European elections were marked by significant gains by far-right candidates and parties throughout Europe, particularly in France and Germany. The far-right movement has largely gained steam from the huge influx of migrants. Here we are of the opinion that the migrant flows aren’t bad for Europe and that migration can help contribute to those countries with declining populations and aging population. It is the influx of unskilled and unvetted asylum seekers that seems to lack any foresight. Many of those seeking asylum are taking severe mental problems and anti-social behavior with them and are in fact a danger to the local people.

July 31

It was a pleasure to recently visit all European Union buildings and headquarters of the EU in Brussels and Luxembourg. I will share the solidarity photo in the park of multilingualism outside the European court of justice on my Instagram profile. The ECJ need to seek justice for its European citizens.

BRICS Summit , Israeli Response to October 1st and the Deployment of North Korean Troops in the Ukraine

Anyone watching the BRICS summit could not but notice that the attempt to isolate Russia has dismally failed.

In a further escalation in the tensions between East and West, North Korean troops have been deployed in the Ukraine. There is military co-operation under their bilateral defense treaty under article 3 I believe. The risk is this war of on Ukraine by Russia turning into a world war as third state have aligned with their ally.

The long promised Israeli retaliation was marked by the launch of some 120 Israeli fighter planes that targeted: ballistic missile manufacturing hubs,airbases,air-defense systems and other military installations.

We notice here, that both sides referring to their attacks as defenses of their State at each launch of aggression. It is probably correct that Donald Trump renamed his Deopartment of Defense as the Department of War. Call it what it really is.

Syria Coup D’état

In an unexpected and swift turn of events rebels have expelled the long ruling Asaad regime and taken control of Damascus Syria. How this will effect Middle East tensions remains to be seen as Syria itself wasn’t actively involved in the Israeli- Iran conflict. Many questions remain unclear as to how this rebel group was able to so quickly oust the Asaad regime that was in power for some decades.

Munich Security Conference

The Vice President of the US alluded to the erosion of free speech rights in Europe in rebuff of European values and European direction. Free speech rights should be re-enforced and liberated in Europe, fundamental to both ancient and modern European values.

Many European representatives were taken a back by such a rebuff of European directions or values. There is certainly the case for looking to increase free speech rights across Europe, and in countries that have more narrowed forms of free speech, the speech can offer direction for relaxing anti- free speech and censorship in the EU.

March 12 Existential Threats to Europe and Europeans(Military spending, social housing, Assylum pause)

In line with my last blog posts on existential threats to Europe I will make some more suggestions now, that went unchecked from my post over a year ago. See the video above !

  1. A complete pause and block on new Asylum applications in the EU block for 6 months. Member States need time to process previous arrivals and deal with no severe social and crime related issues.
  2. Member States need to increase their military spending significantly.
  3. Member States need to prepare for a possible dissolution of NATO and have an alternative security agreement in place.
  4. Member States aren’t doing enough in social housing, inflation and need to tax or ban investment property funds and investment properties.

My Trips to Greece and Hungary

I was impressed by both Greece and Hungary in Europe but for different reasons. The former (Greece) the birthplace of democracy and European civilization reminded me that while Greece its people had endured more challenging times in the last decades, they have endured and aren’t ready to give up on their civilisation just yet. A country that had to fight for its independence after centuries of Ottoman rule know the feeling of being oppressed and celebrates its national day each year with great enthusiasm and outstanding turnout from its people.

Hungary often labelled as the black sheep of Europe is doing surprisingly well under the leadership of Viktor Orban. It has managed to keep crime at levels to those that existed prior to the migrant attack on Europe. It is also embracing more Christian values and the Stephens church in central Budapest is a site to behold.

June 6th Update DDay now a celebration of European Unity

How have things changed since June 6th 1944. Europe torn in half from East to West with the American and British landings necessary for cleaning of Europe. Since both their withdrawal Europe stands more united than ever with the German-Franco alliance central to the European partnership.

July 27th Relocating European Institutions to Rome, Athens and Malta

European Union faces collapse on indecisiveness, international , monetary , regulatory and migration policy. It has always been reactive not proactive and the reaction has been too late and too little for many. Seeking rebirth and getting rid of this stain of the past, we can relocate the institutions to Rome, Athens and Malta. This is more aligned with the historical European center and puts the new center closer to the geopolitical areas of relevance now in the world. Of course there is the case for having a strong European presence in the South of Spain and Portugal additionally.

Funicular Tragedy Lisbon Sept 3rd Gloria Line

It is with great compassion with the victims that I sadly report on this tragedy in which a system failure caused tragic deaths and horrific injuries to those, the majority of which were in the car. I have many a time walked the steep hill of the Gloria line from the monumental Restaudores square Lisboa. I never did take the specific funicular car as i’m an exercise enthusiast. The ascent itself is very challenging and has nearly all in deep breadth before they get to the summit. The street itself is rather narrow and I was made aware of the close proximity of the cars to the sidewalk as it slowly rose or declined the ascent, one on either side of the short road. Without reflecting on my own experiences but keeping to the tragedy, I see that the other systems have or are being now thoroughly checked. The old town of lisbon -Barrio Alto is very picturesque but I was often drawn to safety concerns – narrow streets , small pathways and cars/trams all coming very close to be comfortable. Moving forward I would hope that the city could eliminate any and all of these other risks that also present a passive hazard.

European Expansion moving Forward and Turkey’s ascension to the EU

Europe is set to allow for the ascension of new states with nine official candidates. Of significance is the Turkish request and how some States have opposed their ascension. I wonder if Turkey was to divide itself into several States would its opposition from countries like Germany, Cyprus and Greece be removed.
